The bird watching tower of Aitoneva (Aitoneva, Other areas)

The bird watching tower of Aitoneva ("real mire") is situated by an old peat production site that has been changed into a wetland. Peat production sites are naturally wet areas, and after production ends, many of them will be turned into wetlands. Aitoneva is the site where the industrial energy peat production in Finland started during the Second World War, and first production areas were already finished in the 1950's. There is a lean-to shelter by the tower maintained by Vapo Oy.
