Ancient raised beaches can be found on the slopes of Alkkianvuori. They consist of fields of rounded pebbles. These stone fields formed after the last ice age when the ice retreated from the area and land was covered with meltwater sea. At the sea shore, soil was washed onto stone fields. The postglacial land uplift has raised beaches there high above the current sea level.
