The drag scoop of Aitoneva was used in sod peat production in 1949 - 1957. The peat company Suo Oy had three of these huge machines, of which only one has survived. The peat was dragged into the machine using a scoop that was dragged on the mire using a set of cables. The peat was then crushed and loaded onto railway carts. Using a drag scoop produced large ponds on the surface of the mire. Several of these ponds can be seen along the environmental trail of Aitoneva.
