Springtime in Peräkorpi (Lauhanvuori, National Parks)

Peräkorpi is part of the mire zone surrounding the higher lands of Lauhanvuori ('the mild mountain'). It has a strong groundwater influence, as there are several springs and seepage surfaces in the upper part of the mire. The thickness of peat by the duckboard trail is just a little more than 50 cm. When going downhill, the mire grades into the eccentric raised bog of Lohikeidas ('salmon bog'), which has a maximum peat thickness of 5.1 meters. The mire is 8,560 years old. The trail from Spitaalijärvi to Kivijata goes over the mire. The trail has several stretches of duckboard trail.
