The seasonal wetland of Peräkorpi (Lauhanvuori, National Parks)

The seasonal wetland of Peräkorpi changes during the year. In springtime it's a beautiful pond, but in summertime it dries to a mossy and grassy meadow. In the autumn it starts collecting water again, and in the wintertime it is covered by ice. The seasonal variation is caused by porous and sandy soil. The water in the pond just seeps into the ground and turns into groundwater. Even though the vegetation in the wetland is typical mire vegetation, it does not form any peat.
