Located on the western face of Alkkianvuori Hill, Raatosulkonneva is a sloping mire, which is reminiscent of slope mires in northeast Finland. The mire is partly forested and partly open, and the difference in elevation between the upper and lower sections is 15 metres. The mire and its grassy brook swales are fed by groundwater from Alkkianvuori. In this aerial image, they appear as light green veins on the surface of the mire. The colours of the mire surface are dictated by the vegetation found there. Peat moss, scrub and trees paint the landscape in varying tones of brown, green and red.
