Kauhaneva from above (Kauhaneva-Pohjankangas, National Parks)
Kauhaneva is a diverse mosaic of various types of bogs, with a constantly changing landscape. The hummocks and hollows of raised bogs, sedge patches in aapa mires and combinations of the two provide the basis for diverse plant life, which adds colour to the surface of the bog the whole year round. The bog surface tells of its water management and the bog vegetation shows how water and nutrients are used. Although this can all be readily observed just by walking across the surface of the bog, seeing the ecosystem as a whole is easier from a birds-eye perspective.
