The Southern slope of Soininharju (Hämeenkangas, Other areas)

The south slope of Soininharju is the steepes slope of Hämeenkangas. It is 25 meters high. It has formed at the margin of an west to east trending glacier. The slope has been steepened after the ice age by the waves of the Ancylus sea. 

In 1800's there were no forests in the area due to abundant forest fires. This created a heathland where rare species thrived. The area is maintained even today so that heathland habitats survive.
