Satamakeidas bird-watching tower in a cut-away mire of Vapo (Honkajoki, Cultural and natural sites)

At Satamakeidas a bird lake and a bird-watching tower have been built in the cut-away mire of Vapo. In the eastern side of the tower, there is a five-hectare ancient mire which has been developing during nearly twenty years. Western part of the wetlands is 17 hectares, and the depth of water is as deep as three metres which makes it convenient for the waterfowl. These wetlands are versatile habitats with low banks, thick bushes and small sand and peat islands. (Photo: Terttu Hermansson)
